How do I care for my Dendrobium sa-nook orchid?
There's nothing more exciting than finding a houseplant that gives you flowers! And who doesn't love an orchid? The beautiful Dendrobium sa-nook is our pet friendly plant of the month this month.

We particularly love this Dendrobium orchid because it produces an abundance of long-lasting blooms which cover the stems and often re-bloom multiple times per year.

Native habitat

Native to tropical and subtropical Asia, many Pacific islands and Australia.

Light and position in the home

Your orchid will be happiest in a bright spot (a sunny window is great) however, avoid direct sunlight, especially in the summer.

Foliage and Flowers

The flowers are what make this plant extra special. Gorgeous blooms cover the stems which last anywhere from 6-8 weeks, and if conditions are right, your orchid may flower multiple times each year. (Colours of blooms may vary from plant to plant)

Temperature

Ideal temperature is somewhere between 18-24 degrees Celcius.

Watering

During the growing season keep your orchid well-watered but never allow it to sit in a saturated medium (they're fairly drought tolerant so it's best to slightly underwater than overwater). Test the medium with your finger, if it feels dry then water with lukewarm water. Reduce watering in winter.

Did you know?

This orchid is deciduous and may have a dormant period in the winter, meaning they can lose some of their leaves in the process. Fear not, they are still alive and will bounce back. You may also notice exposed roots showing from the medium, this is perfectly normal. These aerial roots are what orchids use for support and to access atmospheric moisture and nutrients in the wild.
