How do I care for my Dragon's Tail?

This is our Luxury NOT pet-friendly Indoor plant for January 2020. Here are some tips for how to best care for this unusual orchid.

Native habitat

Native to the rainforests of India, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indochina, through to Malesia, Tropical Australia, and the Pacific Islands.

Light and position in the home

The Epipremnum pinnatum can tolerate almost any light conditions. For best results provide it with bright indirect light. Paler leaves indicate too much light, loss of variegation indicates not enough. A south or west-facing window would be best.

Flowers and foliage

It is unlikely that your Epipremnum will flower or fruit indoors. However, its waxy, pinnate leaves are truly stunning and they even help to purify your air.

Watering and humidity

Allow the soil to dry out before watering your Epipremnum. It is fairly drought tolerant and will respond better to under rather than over watering, the latter causing the roots to rot.

Temperature

Room temperatures are ideal for your Epipremnum, anywhere in between 15-29 degrees Celsius. It can withstand occasional cold snaps but avoid temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius.

Did you know?

Epipremnum is a bit of an adventurer. Instead of standing still this plant likes to explore! Using aerial roots to attach and climb trees they then send down shoots that hit the ground and begin to root and trail along the floor.
