How do I care for my Philodendron selloum 'Atom'?

Our plant of the month for all our non-pet friendly subscribers this April is the wonderful Philodendron selloum 'Atom'. This Philodendron is a compact variety so once you've selected a good location for it, it'll unlikely outgrow its space. These tropical beauties are really easy to care for, low-maintenance plants that will be a showstopper in your bedroom, living room and beyond!

Native habitat

This plant is native to South America.

Light and position in the home

Your Philodendron selloum 'Atom' will be happy bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid direct sun exposure as this will burn the leaves. Choose a bright corner away from the window.

Foliage and flowers

The lush green, wavy leaves on this Philodendron will make you feel like you're in the depths of a tropical rainforest. In the wild these often put out spathe-like flowers, but this is rare when grown indoors.

Temperature

Ideal temperature is somewhere between 15 -27C

Watering

Keep the soil moist but well-drained during the summer months, and reduce watering in winter.
