Golden Barrel Cactus

Echinocactus grusonii

£14.99£24.00

These attractive, cheerful cacti look like round pincushions and make the most fabulous display plants. Their stem is ribbed and adorned with golden yellow spines and woolly hairs appear on the crown as the plant matures.

Like most cacti, they are really easy to care for and their slow growth means they will be a long-term companion which you can keep for many years. The Golden Barrel Cactus has been given an 'Award of Garden Merit' by the RHS, which is a truly prestigious award!

These plants are non-toxic to cats and dogs but be careful of sharp spines on delicate paws!

How to care for your Golden Barrel Cactus

Native habitat

Endemic to East-Central Mexico.

Light and position in the home

Plenty of bright sunshine will keep this cactus happy and thriving, and the best place for it in your home will be near a south or west facing window. During the summer, keep it shaded from direct sunlight during the middle of the day to avoid sunburn, particularly if the cactus is behind glass.

Watering

From spring - autumn water when the soil feels dry. During the winter, water sparingly, if at all. Overwatering this species is the most common mistake and can cause the plant to rot.
