Aspidistra elatior

£44.99£60.00

The Cast Iron plant has a reputation for being almost indestructible, which makes it a fantastic plant for beginners or the more neglectful plant parents amongst us. It will live quite happily in many areas within your home without much effort from you, adding a touch of elegance to any room.

The Cast Iron plant can pretty much deal with most light conditions, apart from direct sunlight. The best location for this plant is a north-facing window. A room with bright light will also be fine, just place the plant deeper into the room and away from the window to avoid direct sun.

How to care for your Cast Iron Plant

Native habitat

This plant is native to Japan and Taiwan.

Light and position in the home

The Cast Iron plant can pretty much deal with most light conditions, apart from direct sunlight. The best location for this plant is a north-facing window. A room with bright light will also be fine, just place the plant deeper into the room and away from the window to avoid direct sun.

Watering

The nature of the Cast Iron plant means it can deal with sporadic watering. Soil should be moist but never soaking, and during the winter months just water enough to keep it ticking over. If you have chosen a more shaded area for your Cast Iron plant, then it will likely need less water as it won't dry out as quickly as one in a sunnier spot. As always, it's best to test the soil with your finger and only water once the top couple of inches are dry.
