This rare houseplant is hugely sought after by indoor gardeners and is seen as a bit of a trophy for avid collectors of indoor plants. It is clear to see why this slow-growing monstera is so prized just by taking a look at its fantastic evergreen, climbing foliage. Every one of the heart shaped leaves displays a wonderful mix of green and cream variegations that come in a variety of patterns from half and half leaves to more speckled patterns. Each leaf also sports the characteristic holes in the leaf that give the monstera its name of the Swiss cheese plant.
This beautiful houseplant is easy to look after and it’s delicate and colourful display can be adapted to any home or style. The aerial roots that grow on the stems allow this plant to climb if you give it a moss pole, sting or wire to attach to. As this plant ages the variegations will become more pronounced and the holes in the leaf will open. In the middle of the growing period, this plant may produce white flowers that add a new element to the display.

Where should I put my Monstera Adansonii Variegated Monkey Mask?

Like all variegated plants you need to be careful how much sunlight your monstera is exposed to. The cream areas of the leaf do not produce energy for the plant and are more susceptible to damage from direct sunlight than other varieties. You should choose a location that has had bright, but indirect sunlight. Your chosen location should also be somewhere where the temperature is stable throughout the year, with no cold draughts nearby.

This plant will love a well-draining soil that is kept consistently moist, but not too wet. Water your plant about once a week in the summer months. The best way to check if your plant needs watering is to test the soil with a finger, when the top half of the soil is dry you should water your plant.
