This unique Alocasia is a rare houseplant that is unlike anything else you will have in your home. Its thick elephant eared leaves are dark green with purple undersides, etched with deep ridges that create a stunning and striking textured pattern that brings a new dimension into the home. The Alocasia or Elephant ear is a tropical houseplant native to Asia and Eastern Australia. Characterised by broad, rubbery leaves, these tall plants become an excellent feature wherever they are placed and their leaves showcase all shades of a green.

How to care for your Alocasia

Loving bright, but indirect light, this Alocasia would look great in the corner of a living room or hallway. Keep the leaves misted regularly and try to keep away from draughts, if possible, this is a houseplant that will thrive in the bathroom as it loves warmth and humidity. You should water regularly to keep the soil moist but not soggy and fertilize with a liquid feed once a month during the hottest months of the year for healthy looking leaves and good growth.

Alocasia survive best in big pots where they will grow quickly and produce abundant foliage in the warmer months. As a tropical species, the alocasia likes light and heat and should be placed in bright areas with a little direct light but away from draughty windows or doors. Keep the water moist all year and mist regularly to keep the leaves looking glossy and healthy.

The Alocasia can be a sensitive plant and is attractive to some pests like aphids and spider mites. To keep your plant pest free we recommend you spray the plant lightly with warm soapy water every few weeks. If you develop a bigger problem then apply Neem oil to kill the bugs and their eggs.
