African Milk Tree

Euphorbia Trigona Rubra

Euphorbia Trigona Rubra is such a fascinating succulent!

It is an incredibly good looking plant and makes an incredible addition to any collection. It's a real show stopper and a great talking point. It's also really easy to care for, which obviously makes it seriously Lazy Flora approved!

Under the right conditions, it can grow to between 1-2m, which just adds to its show-stopping quality. Its upright stems and ridges of short-lived leaves and thorns are gorgeous (but best kept away from children and pets). But don't let those leaves fool you - Euphorbia Trigona is actually a cactus and is also known as the African milk tree because of the milky sap contained in the stem.

Please be aware that this plant has sap that is toxic to humans therefore it should always be handled with gloves, and wash hands if it comes into contact with skin. Keep well away from children and pets.

The colour of this plant varies from plant to plant therefore the images represent an indication rather than a guarantee of the colour.

How to care for your African Milk Tree

Native Habitat

Euphorbia trigona is a an easy care succulent that originates in West Africa.

Light and position in the home

African Milk Tree prefers bright light, rather than direct sunlight. It can cope with direct sunlight, but keep an eye out for leaf scorching.

Allow the surface of the earth to dry out in between waterings from spring through to early autumn. In winter, however, water more sparingly. Do not overwater - it prefers it a little on the drier side and is drought tolerant for short periods.
