Bidens Double Red Yellow Bedding Plant

Native to Mexico, the Taka Tuku is a colourful perennial that brings a South American feel into your garden. Well suited for hanging baskets and containers, this is the perfect plant for bringing life to a balcony, smaller garden, or patio area from May - October. The star-shaped flowers have a wonderful red and yellow colour and grow on a clump of jagged evergreen foliage that creates a compact display of colour and texture that will be a focal point anywhere it's placed. The bright colours will attract butterflies and bees into your garden, bringing life into space and improving the health of the rest of your garden.
Plant in any well-draining soil in a sunny location that has some shelter from strong, cold winds. Water once every two weeks or enough to keep the soil moist, but not damp. The Taka Tuku will thrive on some underwatering so you can allow the soil to try out slightly. If you see the flowers begin to lose colour or droop, then it needs watering.
Your Taka Tuku doesn't require much fertilizing to grow well. Add granulated organic flower plant fertilizer to the soil in early spring.
Since the foliage is evergreen, you don't need to prune back as much as other plants. Keep an eye on discoloured or wilting flowers and remove them regularly to encourage new growth and prevent them from rotting.
If your Taka Tuku is planted in the ground it will not survive a British winter. However, container plants will survive if treated well. Apply a fleece and mulch the soil of larger containers to preserve heat in the soil. For hanging baskets and smaller pots, we would recommend bringing your plant inside into a room that receives plenty of light and never gets too cold. Once the final frosts have passed you can put the plants back outside.
