How to care for your Borage | 8.5cm | Edible plant

Light and position

Borage grows best in a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Planting borage close to other fruits and veggies will attract pollinators and can help to increase the yield of your crops. Borage is a fast growing annual plant generally lasting one season, but if you allow it to flower and set seed, it will reappear year after year.

Like other herbs, borage requires even, regular watering until it is well-established, at which point the soil can be left to dry out between waterings.

Facts and stats

Whilst not as common as some other herbs, Borage is a really wonderful plant for the kitchen garden. The leaves have a taste that resembles cucumber and they add a lovely flavour to teas, summer drinks, salads and sandwiches or they can be sauteed like spinach. The beautiful blue flowers which appear in the summer are some of the bees favourite blooms. These flowers are edible too and can be used as a garnish on your favourite summer dishes.
