How to look after Ensete plants

Water regularly to keep the soil moist, but wet and feed once a fortnight with a nitrogen rich fertilizer. You will not need to remove leaves unless necessary. The Ensete is a tropical plant that will not do well in a British winter. In the autumn you have a few options to get the plant through the winter. Cut the plant back to ground level and either dig it up or transfer it to a pot to move indoors until the spring. If you do not want to do this, you will need to apply a thick (5cm) thick layer of mulch around the base of the plant and then wrap the rest of the plant in a thick layer of horticultural fleece. Whichever method you choose, the plant will quickly regrow In the spring.
