These peppers have a slightly sweet taste and are they are a healthy addition to any diet and a beautiful plant to see in your veg patch. This easy to grow vegetable will thrive in a garden bed, greenhouse or container and once planted it can be left alone.
How to grow homegrown sweet peppers
Plant in well-draining soil that is in a warm and sunny location. If growing in a container, make sure that there is plenty of room for the plant to grow. Pinch out the growing tips of the plant when they are about 8in tall to encourage branching which will produce more peppers. When the plants get large enough you will want to tie them to a plant support ready for when the fruits begin to form. Water regularly and feed with a high potash fertilizer (tomato feed will do).
How do you harvest peppers?
You can harvest the pepper at any point once the fruit has formed. The longer you leave it the more red the fruit will get and the flavour will change subtly. To harvest, simply cut the pepper off at the stem.
