Crimson King is a cultivar of the Norway Maple, Acer platanoides ‘Crimson King’. Smaller in height and width, Crimson King grows to about 10 metres and is a narrower and more upright in shape, (hence its name) making it a good choice for a smaller garden. It is also rather lovely for an avenue and or street planting.
A hardy tree, tolerating wind Crimson King requires full sun or light shade and will grow on most soils except for acid or sandy soils. Early summer spraying is often necessary as it does suffer from downy mildew in late summer. However as with life, nothing is perfect, and this tree will give pleasure and lovely summer colour.
Crimson King tolerates pollution, so it is a good tree to plant in cities with so much pollution on the rise.
