How to care for your Pineapple Sage | 8.5cm | Edible plant

Light and position

Pineapple sage will be happiest in full sun with moist, well-draining soil and some shelter from the wind. In late autumn when the temperatures drop, move your pineapple sage to a greenhouse or unheated conservatory to protect it from winter frosts.

Water well during the growing season, particularly in dry, warm weather. Pineapple sage will appreciate consistently moist soil, although well established plants will tolerate some drought.

Facts and stats

Pineapple sage is a wonderful shrub which is grown as a herb for its pineapple-scented leaves, which not only smell amazing, they taste great too! The younger, smaller leaves tend to be more flavourful and can be used in summer drinks, salads or steeped for herbal teas. In late summer, pineapple sage puts on a display of vibrant scarlet blooms making it a wonderful decorative addition to your kitchen garden.
