How to care for your Pinstripe Calathea

Native habitat

Native to the rainforests of South America.

Light and position in the home

This plant is adapted to living on the rainforest floor, shaded by taller plants and trees. Therefore, it will be happiest in bright, but indirect light such as near a north or east-facing window. Direct sunlight can cause leaf scorch and can also cause the leaves to lose their pinstripes.

As a tropical plant, the Calathea ornata thrives in moist but well-drained soil. The best way to know when it's time to water is to push your finger into the soil. If the top 1-2 inches is dry, then it's time for watering.
