POLEMONIUM caeruleum Perennial Plant
Also known as 'Jacob's ladder, the Polemonium is an erect perennial that produces ladder-like leaves on its stiff stems that bear small clusters of deep blue flowers with protruding stamen. Polemonium is best suited to flower beds and borders within the courtyard and informal gardens, where their simple, effective flowers bring colour and texture to the space.
Where to plant Polemonium plants
Best planted in moist, well-draining clay, loam or chalk soil and sand within an acidic, alkaline or neutral PH balance. The location should receive full sun throughout the day. Whilst it's not vital, choosing a spot sheltered from strong, cold winds would be beneficial.
How to look after Polemonium plants
Water well to keep the soil moist but not wet. Apply a diluted dose of liquid fertilizer once new growth starts. Once new flowers have stopped emerging, cut the flowering stalks back to ground level to promote fresh and healthy blooms the following year. If the foliage begins to look untidy, you can cut it back to keep it looking neat.
