The chard is one of the most understated leafy vegetables used in the uk. This is an easy to grow and versatile vegetable that is used throughout the kitchen, it makes great salad leaves, garnish for burgers or as an alternative to bread in a wrap. The crisp texture and slightly buttery and peppery taste, the chard is the workhorse of the kitchen and a delight to grow for yourself.
How to grow chard at home
Plant your chard in a moisture retentive soil that receives partial shade throughout the dat. Too much sun the leaves will burn. When you first introduce your plant to the garden water it well to help it establish itself. How do you harvest chard?
chard can be harvested any time between July and October, you can harvest your plant as soon as it has formed a few layers of leaves. You should harvest before the plant flowers as it will start to taste woody afterwards. To harvest your chard, gently lift it from the soi to avoid damaging the leaves.

Plug plants are very young plants that come ready to go in the ground. They are grown in single units in modular trays and be either seedlings or cuttings. Buying plug plants lets you fill your beds and borders easily, and in a way that is stress-free for your plant since it allows for little root disturbance.
How do you plant a plug plant?
When you first get your plant home, remove any packaging except for the pot. Place the plant in a warm and sunny space for 2-4 hours to let them recover and acclimatise. You should try to plant your plug the same day if you can. To do this, dig a hole in your desired place that is slightly larger than the root ball and soil around it and put the plug inside. Cover with the existing earth and press down lightly. Water well for the first week to help the plant establish itself and feed with an all-purpose feed after 3 weeks.
