Closely related to the Honeysuckle, but with thick billowy flowerheads that come in muted tones, the Scabiosa or 'pincushion' is a flowering plant that has long been thought to have medicinal properties. Found all over the world, the Scabiosa ia a tall perennial that commands a spot at the back of a garden border or as a feature display. These drought resistant flowers would be particularly effective in a courtyard, gravel or wild garden.
How to grow Scabiosa
Plant in a well-draining sand, chalk or loam soil that receives full sun throughout the day Water well when the top layers of soil are dry and apply a thick layer of mulch in early spring Deadhead to prolong flowering and cut stems right down in autumn
