SCHIZOSTYLIS coccinea Major Perennial Plant
This vigorous, clump-forming perennial has grassy, light green leaves and erect stems bearing spikes of gladiolus-like flowers in August and September. The sword-shaped foliage sits under the red flowers, forming a complete display for any space. This plant is excellent for the middle of a sheltered border.
Where to grow Schizostylis
Plant in a sunny position with well-draining soil. Keep the space free from strong, cold drafts.
How to grow Schizostylis
Water enough to keep the soil moist but not wet, changing frequency as the weather changes. Fertilise with a diluted liquid feed once a fortnight in the summer and spring. In autumn, much around the base and trim away any dead foliage to allow new growth in spring.
